Technical specifications are technical documents elaborated by the decision of the vendor (manufacturer) or by the request of the customer. This document comes with other technical documentation on the industrial product and specifies the product's requirements: acceptance and delivery rules, controlling methods, operation, transport and storage conditions. Technical requirements specify the product's main characteristics and dimensions, properties or working characteristics, quality characteristics, configuration, etc. Acceptance and delivery rules specify check-out test conditions and procedure when the product is being delivered by the factory and accepted by the customer.

The testing method section specifies the method of determining all the parameters and properties of the products, the respective norms and regulations; the rules of sampling, equipment, instrument, material, and chemical agent selection; test preparation and execution technique and methods of processing of results.

Operation, transport, and storage conditions section contain rules of product assembly, installation, and use, packaging and transportation requirements, and recommended place, conditions, and period of storage.

Technical specifications are the indispensable part of the product construction or other technical documentation. In the absence of documentation, technical specifications should contain a full list of requirements for the product and its production, control and acceptance. Technical specifications are elaborated for this particular product, material, substance, etc. or several products, materials, substances, etc. Requirements set by the technical specifications should not contradict the obligatory requirements of state or interstate standards which are valid for the products. Technical specifications should comply with GOST 2.114-95.
